Skin Booster REJURAN® SKINVIVE™ by JUVÉDERM®

When can I wash my face and apply makeup after a booster procedure?

After a booster procedure, it is generally recommended to start washing your face from the evening of the same day and light makeup from the next day. Heavy color makeup is typically fine after 2–3 days once redness subsides, and it is advisable to wait about 1–2 weeks before using saunas, swimming, or excessive sun exposure.

How soon after a booster treatment can I wash my face?

Washing your face is generally recommended to begin gently a few hours after the procedure. In the initial period when the tiny needle marks at the injection site are settling, avoiding contact with water and hands helps reduce the risk of infection and irritation. After that, it is advisable to wash gently with lukewarm water and a mild cleanser, rinsing lightly without rubbing.

The exact timing for washing may vary slightly depending on the type of booster and the depth of injection. If you have sensitive skin or redness persists, it is safe to wait an additional day, so please follow the guidance of the clinic where you received the procedure.

When can I apply makeup after a booster treatment?

Makeup is generally recommended to start lightly from the day after the procedure. Immediately after injection, there is a possibility that cosmetic ingredients or bacteria could enter through the needle marks, so it is safer to avoid makeup initially. In particular, it is advisable to refrain from using products with strong adherence like foundation or concealer, or applying powder by rubbing, during the early recovery period.

When you can resume washing and makeup is a common aftercare question during consultations. Below is a table summarizing the general timeline for resuming various activities after a booster procedure. These times are approximate guidelines and may vary depending on individual differences, the product used, and the treatment area.

ItemGeneral resumption timeNotes
Gentle washingAfter the evening of the procedure dayLukewarm water, no rubbing
Basic moisturizingAfter washingMild formula, exclude active ingredients
Light makeupFrom the next dayThin application, minimize adherence and rubbing
Heavy makeup / color cosmeticsAfter 2–3 daysAfter redness subsides

Should I avoid rubbing the treated area?

It is advisable to avoid vigorously rubbing or pressing the injection site. In the early stage when the booster ingredients are settling evenly into the dermis, strong friction can disrupt the distribution of the substance or cause minor irritation and inflammation. Whether washing, moisturizing, or applying makeup, it is safer to pat gently or spread softly rather than rubbing.

However, for some collagen-inducing boosters, your dermatologist may recommend a light massage immediately after the procedure to help the product spread evenly. This applies only when your dermatologist instructs it, and it is different from vigorously rubbing the area on your own. For area-specific care, please follow the instructions given at the time of your procedure.

What should I be careful about on the day of treatment?

On the day of the procedure, the key is to avoid activities that dilate blood vessels or generate heat. Saunas, steam rooms, hot showers, intense exercise, and alcohol consumption can increase redness, swelling, and bruising, so it is advisable to refrain from them on the day. In particular, alcohol is known to widen blood vessels and increase the likelihood of bruising.

It is also advisable to avoid the habit of frequently touching or pressing the injection site to check it. Cold compresses can help soothe initial swelling and heat, and adequate hydration and rest are beneficial for recovery.

What should I avoid for a few days after a booster treatment?

For several days after the procedure, it is advisable to avoid strong heat, UV rays, and irritating ingredients. Saunas, swimming pools, and excessive sun exposure are generally advised to be avoided for about 1–2 weeks. It is safer to temporarily stop using exfoliating or active ingredients such as retinol, AHA, and BHA until redness subsides. It is also advisable to postpone combining strong peels or other heat- or laser-based treatments until recovery is confirmed.

These guidelines are general recommendations and may vary depending on the type of booster and individual recovery speed. If swelling or redness persists for a long time, or if you experience abnormal reactions such as pain or fever, do not manage them on your own and consult your clinic.
