Lifting Thermage® FLX

Eye Thermage® FLX (periorbital Thermage® FLX), should you get it separately?

The eye area is a separate region treated with a dedicated 0.25 cm² eye tip, so if you are concerned about eyelid elasticity or fine lines around the eyes, you should receive eye Thermage separately.

Why Get Eye Thermage Separately?

This is because the eye area is a separate region that can only be treated with a dedicated eye tip (0.25 cm²), not a facial tip. The skin around the eyes is thin and highly curved, so a larger facial tip cannot deliver energy to the eyelids, the corners of the eyes, or the under-eye area.

The eye tip for Thermage FLX is a dedicated consumable designed for this area, with a reduced contact area and a shallower energy penetration depth. Because the facial treatment and the tip itself are different, if you want to improve eyelid and periorbital elasticity, you should plan for eye Thermage separately.

Does It Work for Sagging and Fine Lines Around the Eyes?

Yes, eye Thermage is a procedure that can help improve a feeling of drooping due to decreased eyelid elasticity, fine lines around the eyes, fine lines under the eyes, and reduced skin elasticity. The radiofrequency heat immediately contracts collagen in the dermis, and over the following months, it stimulates the production of new collagen, which can improve the elasticity of the skin around the eyes.

Some effects may appear immediately after the procedure, but significant improvement is known to occur gradually over 2 to 6 months as collagen remodels. However, the degree of improvement varies individually depending on the severity of sagging and skin condition, so it is important to have an accurate assessment of your eyelid condition before the procedure.

However, eye Thermage is not a procedure that produces a dramatic visible change like the result of surgical treatments such as double eyelid surgery or upper blepharoplasty. Rather than a dramatic improvement in one session, it is an anti-aging procedure for consistent, gradual care of periorbital elasticity.

Can I Get It Together with Facial Thermage® FLX?

Yes, facial Thermage® FLX and eye Thermage® FLX can be performed on the same day, and many people do receive them together. Because the target areas are different and the tips used are different, you can expect a synergistic effect without interference.

Is It Safe Around the Eyes?

This procedure is performed with safety ensured by using a dedicated eye tip and corneal protective lens. The Thermage® FLX eye tip is a dedicated tip that has received U.S. FDA clearance for use on the eyelid area, and its energy output and penetration depth are designed to be low to suit the thin skin around the eyes.

During the procedure, a plastic corneal protective lens is placed inside the eye to protect the eye, blocking the radiofrequency energy from affecting the eyeball. However, because the area around the eyes is anatomically delicate, receiving the treatment from a Dermatologist with sufficient experience, along with verifying the device's certification, is key to safety.

How Many Shots and Sessions Are Appropriate?

Eye Thermage has two dedicated tips: 225 shots and 450 shots. Typically, a standard treatment consists of one session using the 450-shot tip on the eyelids and eye area. If only specific areas (not the entire eye area) need intensive treatment, the 225-shot tip may be used.

Thermage® FLX is not a treatment that is divided into multiple sessions; rather, it is a method that waits for collagen remodeling after a single session. The effects are generally known to last about a year, so many people receive it about once a year. However, the appropriate interval may vary depending on the degree of sagging, age, and skin thickness, so we recommend that you have your eye area condition diagnosed and then establish a plan that suits you.
