Lifting Oligio Thermage® FLX

Oligio vs. Thermage® FLX: What's the difference?

Both devices are 6.78MHz monopolar RF, but they differ in tip design, energy correction method, and accumulation of clinical data. Thermage® FLX is a 4th-generation imported device with nearly 20 years of accumulated data, while Oligio is a Korean device released in 2020.

Both use radiofrequency — what’s the difference?

Oligio and Thermage® FLX both use 6.78MHz monopolar (unipolar) RF to deliver heat to the dermis and induce collagen remodeling—the principle is the same. The difference lies in the detailed design of the devices. Thermage® FLX is a 4th-generation device developed in the U.S., featuring an algorithm (AccuREP™) that measures skin impedance in real time for each shot and automatically adjusts energy, along with a wider tip area. Oligio is a Korean monopolar RF device released in 2020, using the same frequency band while enhancing procedural comfort with features like a vibrating handpiece.

In other words, it is not a question of "which one is RF," but rather that within the same principle, the precision of energy delivery, verification history, and cost structure differ. How these differences affect actual results depends on skin thickness and degree of sagging, so a diagnosis comes first.

Is there a big difference in results between Korean-made and imported RF devices?

Since the principle and frequency are the same, the direction of improvement is similar, but factors affecting consistency of results may differ by device. What determines effectiveness is not the "Korean" or "imported" label itself, but the stability of energy output, the heat transfer design of the tip, and the practitioner's skill in distributing energy across different facial areas.

Korean devices have received MFDS approval for safety and efficacy, so an approach like "it's Korean, so it's ineffective" is not accurate. However, the Thermage® FLX series has been used worldwide for nearly 20 years and has relatively more accumulated clinical data, so those who value predictability tend to prefer it. Since individual results vary, it is reasonable to compare based on your priorities (verification history, cost, pain) during a consultation.

Which is less burdensome in terms of pain and cost?

Pain is managed with cooling and vibration functions in both devices, and individual variation is significant, but in terms of cost, the imported device Thermage® FLX is generally higher. Monopolar RF can produce a hot sensation due to deep thermal stimulation; Thermage® FLX uses vibration and cooling spray, while Oligio uses a vibrating handpiece to help alleviate pain. If needed, topical anesthetic can be used to make it tolerable for most people.

Regarding cost, it is more important to understand "what determines the price" than a specific amount. Key variables include the treatment area (full face, jawline, eye area), number of shots, tip type, and whether genuine tips are used. Even with the same device, costs vary depending on the shot count configuration. Choosing a configuration with too few shots based solely on low cost may not yield the desired change, so please check the total number of shots and treatment scope together.

Which is better for someone new to RF treatments?

If you are new to RF Lifting, the priority is to get a diagnosis on "whether RF is the right stage for your skin" rather than "choosing a device." In consultations, many people come with a device name already in mind, but checking the degree of sagging first makes the selection criteria much clearer. If sagging is mild, you want to reduce budget burden, and you want to first see how your skin responds to RF, starting with a Korean device can be a reasonable choice. If you prefer to receive your first treatment with a device that has extensive clinical data, you may consider Thermage® FLX.

However, for those with thin skin or low fat volume, or sagging that has progressed to the SMAS layer, combining RF with ultrasound (Ultherapy PRIME®) may be more suitable than RF alone. The more of a beginner you are, the more important a specialist's diagnosis becomes. Heal House has both Thermage® FLX and the Korean monopolar RF device Oligio, so we can guide you to choose based on your skin condition and budget without assuming one device.

Which concerns does each device suit?

For mild loss of elasticity centered on skin texture and fine wrinkles, both devices are viable options. When precise energy correction and a track record of verification are needed, Thermage® FLX is considered first. Typical indications for RF Lifting include early sagging of the cheeks and jawline, loss of elasticity accompanied by enlarged pores, and fine wrinkles around the eyes—concerns caused by collagen loss in the dermal layer.

Concern typeConsider firstNotes
Fine lines around eyes and mouth, skin textureMonopolar RF (Thermage® FLX, etc.)Dermal collagen stimulation
Early sagging of cheeks and jawlineRF or combined with ultrasoundDetermined by depth of sagging
Sagging involving the SMAS layerCombined with ultrasound (Ultherapy PRIME®)RF alone has limitations

Conversely, if volume loss is prominent or submental fat is the main cause, RF alone may be insufficient, and combining collagen stimulators or fat management procedures may be necessary. Which device is suitable depends on the depth and cause of sagging, so we recommend consulting a dermatologist to establish a plan tailored to you.
