Lifting Thermage® FLX

How is Thermage® FLX pricing determined?

Thermage® FLX cost is determined by the number of shots in the tip (300, 600, 900 shots) and the treatment area. However, even with the same number of shots, results can vary depending on the Dermatologist's experience in designing the energy level and shot distribution. Therefore, it is important to verify genuine product usage, correct shot quantity, and the practitioner's experience rather than focusing solely on price. If a clinic offers prices significantly below market rates, you should check the reason for such pricing.

How Does Cost Vary by Number of Shots (600 vs. 900)?

The biggest factor determining Thermage® FLX cost is the number of shots, and the more shots, the higher the cost of the tip used. Thermage® FLX uses a single-use consumable tip with a fixed number of shots per tip, so whether a 300-shot, 600-shot, or 900-shot tip is used directly translates to a cost difference. In other words, the price difference by number of shots stems from the cost structure of the tip itself, not arbitrary pricing by the clinic.

Generally, 300 shots are used for partial areas such as both cheeks, 600 shots for the full face, and 900 shots for the full face or including the neck. A higher number of shots is not always better; the appropriate number of shots varies depending on skin thickness, degree of sagging, and improvement goals. Even with the same 600 shots, the perceived results can differ depending on how they are distributed across areas.

Tip typeNumber of shotsTypical application area
Total Tip300 shotsPartial areas such as both cheeks
Total Tip600 shotsFull face
Total Tip900 shotsFull face + neck
Eye Tip225 shotsEyelid or eye area
Eye Tip450 shotsEyelid + eye area

Therefore, when comparing costs, it is accurate to compare under the same conditions based on "how many shots and which area is treated" rather than just the price. It is reasonable to determine the number of shots you need after a consultation to assess your skin condition.

How Does Authenticity and Full Dosage Affect the Price of Thermage® FLX?

Using a genuine tip at the full dose is itself a cost, so whether the treatment uses genuine, full-dose tips is directly related to the price. Thermage® FLX tips are single-use consumables designed to deliver only the manufacturer-specified number of shots, and the cost of the tip accounts for a significant portion of the treatment price. The cost structure inevitably differs between clinics that open a new genuine tip and deliver all shots and those that do not.

Reused or non-genuine tips, which are problematic in some cases, can cause unstable energy delivery and safety issues. It is advisable to directly observe the opening of a new tip before the procedure and check the shot count on the device screen before and after treatment. Whether a clinic transparently explains the genuine authentication process is more important to check than the price list.

Is There a Big Cost Difference Between Full-Face and Under-Eye Thermage® FLX?

Yes, there is a cost difference because the tips used are different. For the full face, a Total Tip (typically 600 shots or more) is used, while for the eye area, a dedicated Eye Tip is used. The Eye Tip has a small contact surface of 0.25 cm², designed for the thin and curved skin around the eyes. Typically, 225 shots are used for the eyelids, and up to 450 shots if the under-eye area is included.

Partial treatments generally have a lower cost burden than full-face treatments because the tip size is smaller. However, eye-area treatment requires additional preparation such as eye shields and delicate technique, and if both eyelid sagging and midface sagging are present, partial treatment alone may have limited improvement. Deciding the treatment area after diagnosing the cause of sagging can help reduce unnecessary costs.

Why Should You Be Suspicious of Excessively Cheap Thermage® FLX?

Because in a structure where the cost of genuine tips is fixed, a price significantly lower than the market rate suggests that costs may have been cut somewhere. Common examples include delivering fewer shots than stated or using non-genuine consumables. In such cases, even if it is outwardly called "Thermage® FLX," the total energy delivered may differ, leading to different results.

Of course, not all cheap treatments are problematic. However, if the price is unusually low, be sure to ask whether genuine authentication is available, whether you can directly observe the tip being opened, and whether the shot count before and after treatment is shown. If a clinic cannot clearly answer these questions, it is safer to be cautious.

Why Shouldn't You Choose Based on Price Alone?

This is because, even if the equipment is the same, the results of Thermage® FLX can vary greatly depending on the practitioner's design. For the same 600 shots, how the energy level and shot distribution are designed for the areas causing sagging determines the outcome. The Dermatologist's experience based on anatomical understanding is an element not reflected in the price tag.

Additionally, Thermage® FLX results are known to appear gradually over several months as collagen remodels, rather than immediately after treatment. Therefore, accurate diagnosis and full-dose treatment from the start are necessary to achieve the expected improvement over time. In many cases, receiving genuine, full-dose, and skilled treatment at appropriate intervals is more cost-effective in the long run than repeating low-cost treatments with disappointing results. Please consult with a board-certified dermatologist to determine the appropriate number of shots and treatment plan for your skin condition.
