Re2O® Has Taken Hannam and Cheongdam by Storm — Does It Live Up to the Hype?

by Heal House

Heal House introduces Re2O®, a Skin Booster based on a medical material that has been used in burn and reconstructive surgery for over 30 years. Unlike other Skin Boosters that signal collagen production, this article explains how Re2O® directly replenishes collagen components and when effects appear.

Re2O® at a Glance

With its stock price doubling and causing a shortage craze in Cheongdam and Hannam, Re2O® is a medical material that has been used in burn and reconstructive surgery for over 30 years.

While other Skin Boosters signal the skin to "make" collagen, Re2O® directly fills in collagen itself.

Changes are visible immediately after the procedure, with peak effect at one month, lasting 2 to 3 months.

If you were to pick just one name that is generating the most buzz in the aesthetic procedure market these days, it would undoubtedly be Re2O®.

In Cheongdam-dong and Hannam-dong, there has been a shortage craze, and the stock price of the related company nearly doubled in a month.

We even hear stories of people wanting to get the procedure but having to wait because the product is unavailable. What is going on?

Why Did Re2O® Cause a Shortage Craze?

The raw material of Re2O®, human Acellular Dermal Matrix (hADM), has been used in the medical field for over 30 years. This means it is not an entirely new procedure. Yet, there must be a clear reason why word-of-mouth has exploded recently. I would like to summarize it into three main points.

Re2O® Sweeping Hannam and Cheongdam: Does It Live Up to the Hype? Article image 3

First, the center of gravity in aesthetic procedures has shifted. A few years ago, it was the "era of lifting," but now it is an era focused on "the quality of the skin itself." Skin Boosters, which refine subtle changes like skin texture, fine lines, and pores, have become the center of the market.

Second, fatigue with 'waiting' procedures has built up. Conventional collagen stimulators take weeks to months for effects to appear. Re2O® is a rare Skin Booster that shows changes immediately after the procedure. This immediate satisfaction appears to have rapidly amplified word-of-mouth.

Third, the mechanism of action itself is different. While conventional Skin Boosters send a signal to "produce collagen," Re2O® directly replenishes the skin structure. By injecting the extracellular matrix, which determines skin elasticity, directly into the skin, structural components such as collagen, elastin, and fibronectin are delivered, rebuilding the dermal structure itself. Therefore, immediate effects appear without waiting.

POINT - The fact that the mechanism of action itself is different is the most decisive distinction. While other Skin Boosters 'signal' the skin to make collagen, Re2O® 'directly' fills in collagen itself.

Does It Really Live Up to the Hype?

As with most Skin Boosters, some people give it a standing ovation, while others say it has no effect at all. With both praise and skepticism pouring in, it is worth calmly examining. Based on my recent experience receiving Re2O® treatment and performing it on numerous patients, my conclusion is that it is clearly effective. In the clinic, satisfaction rates are high, and above all, the fact that changes are visible immediately after the procedure clearly sets it apart from other Skin Boosters.

However, you should remember that the effects of Re2O® may vary depending on your skin condition and the purpose of the treatment. Since the size, speed, and duration of results all vary by individual, the Dermatologist's judgment from diagnosis through treatment greatly influences the outcome.

POINT - This is a treatment with clear effects, but the results do not appear with the same intensity for everyone. The outcome varies significantly depending on skin thickness, degree of laxity, and the treated area. Therefore, the Dermatologist's judgment from diagnosis through treatment determines the results.

Re2O® Is Made from Human Cadaver Skin — Is It Safe?

This is often the first concern for those new to Re2O®. "It's made from human skin, right? I'm a bit hesitant." I think this is a natural reaction. While the aversion is understandable, there is no need to doubt its safety. The basis for this can be summarized in three points.

First, it is a material that has been validated in the medical field for over 30 years. Since its introduction in the United States in 1995, acellular dermal matrix has been used in hundreds of thousands of patients under the FDA's human tissue safety management system for various medical areas such as skin reconstruction for burn patients, breast reconstruction surgery, dental surgery, and hernia repair. Its use in aesthetic procedures is relatively recent, but the material itself has already accumulated sufficient safety and utility through extensive clinical experience.

Second, its safety and efficacy have been proven in international journals. Starting with a study by Sclafani et al. published in Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery in 2000,

A clinical study published in Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology in 2024 reported that the combination of micronized acellular dermal matrix (mADM) and PRP is safe and effective for improving atrophic acne scars.

In addition, a multicenter randomized controlled trial published in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in 2025 demonstrated that mADM filler is non-inferior to collagen filler.

Third, it is managed under the world's most stringent standards. Under the oversight of the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB), the entire process of donor selection, medical history review, processing, quality control, and ethical consent is managed. In particular, only tissue specifically consented for cosmetic use is used. Also, as the name "acellular" suggests, cells that could trigger an immune response are all removed during processing, so the risk of rejection is very low from the start.

Re2O® vs. REJURAN®: How are they different?

Re2O® is sometimes cited as an alternative to REJURAN®. Therefore, it can be said that these are the most frequently compared treatments. Although the names are similar, their mechanisms of action are completely different.

Re2O® Sweeping Hannam and Cheongdam: Does It Live Up to the Hype? Article image 9

What are the effects and duration of Re2O®?

Changes are visible immediately after the procedure, with the peak effect at one month, and it is maintained for about 2 to 3 months afterward.

Immediately after the procedure: The skin feels instantly smoother.

About one month later: This is when the effect is most clearly visible.

2 to 3 months: This is the period during which good skin condition is stably maintained.

Of course, individual results may vary depending on skin condition. If you are receiving the treatment for the first time, you may feel that the effect diminishes quickly, but with repeated sessions, the skin environment improves and the duration tends to gradually increase.

During the maintenance period after the procedure, it acts as a support structure within the skin, directly improving elasticity and aiding regeneration. Even as it gradually breaks down, it stimulates surrounding fibroblasts, contributing to the reconstruction of the dermal structure. This is why you can expect not only immediate changes but also long-term skin improvement.

The ideal treatment interval is to receive the procedure again when you feel the effect has diminished.

POINT - The effect is immediately after the procedure → peaks at one month → maintained for 2 to 3 months. The duration tends to increase with repeated treatments.

What changes occur after Re2O® treatment?

During Re2O® treatments, three common patterns were clearly observed among patients.

First, satisfaction was higher for those with multiple concerns.

Compared to those with only one concern, patients who had a combination of internal dryness, dullness, enlarged pores, and fine lines tended to experience more noticeable simultaneous improvement in multiple areas from a single treatment.

Second, satisfaction immediately after the procedure and satisfaction one month later showed different patterns.

Some patients liked the immediate smoothness, while others were more satisfied with the gradual refinement of skin texture over the month. This is a distinctive feature of a rare treatment that offers both immediate and cumulative effects.

Third, patients in their 40s and 50s noticed a more pronounced difference in effect when Re2O® was combined with a lifting procedure.

Standalone treatment already provides high satisfaction, but the results were significantly better when combined with Thermage® FLX or Ultherapy PRIME®. As we age, the skin's internal support materials become depleted, so replenishing those materials with Re2O® before receiving a lifting procedure proved to be the most effective sequence.

What about Re2O® side effects, lumps (nodules), and downtime?

Lumps (nodules).

It may, but it is different in nature from the lumpiness associated with other treatments. The lumps from Sculptra or JUVELOOK are firm masses caused by an inflammatory reaction around the particles. In contrast, the lumpiness from Re2O® is simply due to the powder not having fully dissolved. Just as you would dissolve clumps of powdered milk in water, injecting saline solution re-dissolves the powder, and the problem usually resolves naturally.

Pain & Downtime.

Very minimal. The treatment can be performed without numbing cream, and there is almost no visible blood, bumps, or injection marks. However, you may feel a slight soreness when deeper layers are treated.

POINT - The lumpiness from Re2O® is fundamentally different from the inflammatory nodules of Sculptra or JUVELOOK; it is simply undissolved powder and resolves with saline. Pain and downtime are also minimal.

Can I receive Re2O® and lifting treatments together?

We actually recommend having them together. Lifting treatments such as Thermage® FLX or Ultherapy PRIME® work by clearing out old collagen inside the skin and stimulating the production of new collagen. However, if there is insufficient raw material to build that new collagen, the lifting effect is inevitably reduced. The reason the lifting effect seems to fade as we age is precisely this shortage of raw material.

Re2O® is a treatment that replenishes that raw material in advance. When you undergo lifting after the foundation has been fortified, the result is deeper and longer-lasting.

Re2O® Sweeping Hannam and Cheongdam: Does It Live Up to the Hype? Article image 11

It is fine to have both on the same day, but the ideal sequence is Re2O® first, followed by lifting about one month later. It is most effective to receive the lifting after the Re2O® has settled into the skin and the infrastructure has been built.

POINT - Re2O® → about one month later → Lifting. Filling the foundation first and then receiving the lifting gives the deepest and longest-lasting results.

What criteria should I use to choose a clinic for Re2O®?

Re2O® is not a treatment where only the product matters. The outcome varies greatly depending on how the product is handled. That is why, even with the same treatment name, results differ from clinic to clinic. There are two key points to consider when receiving Re2O®.

First, is the concentration adjusted according to your skin condition? Many people think that a higher concentration is always better, but the opposite is true. For dry, thin skin, the solution should be diluted so that it spreads softly. For skin with a significant loss of elasticity, a higher concentration is used so that it acts as a strong support. You should avoid clinics that apply a uniform concentration without a skin assessment.

Second, are both the deep and superficial layers precisely injected? For the effect of Re2O® to be maximized, both the deep and superficial layers of the dermis need to be filled. If only one layer is treated, the full potential is not realized. In superficial layer treatments especially, the occurrence of pain, bruising, or bumps depends greatly on the practitioner's technique.

This is why results vary even among clinics offering the same treatment named 'Re2O®' – it all comes down to diagnosis and technique.

POINT - Ask these questions during your consultation:

  • "Will you adjust the concentration to suit my skin condition?"
  • "Will you inject into both the deep and superficial layers?"

Quick Q&A

Q. How much does Re2O® cost? Prices vary by clinic, and it is generally on the higher end among Skin Booster treatments. The cost depends on factors such as concentration, mixing components, treatment area, and the practitioner. For an accurate price, you should receive a consultation.

Q. How many sessions of Re2O® are recommended? What is the treatment interval? You can feel the effect after a single session. However, to maintain satisfactory results stably, it is common to receive 2 to 3 sessions at one-month intervals, followed by additional sessions when you feel the effect has subsided.

Q. Are there any precautions after Re2O® treatment? Since the treatment involves minimal downtime, you can resume daily activities immediately. However, it is advisable to avoid saunas, steam rooms, alcohol, and strenuous exercise on the day of the treatment.

Q. Can I receive Re2O® during pregnancy or breastfeeding? It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. It is safer to decide after giving birth and after you have finished breastfeeding, based on a consultation.

Q. Can I receive Re2O® and REJURAN® together? Yes. Since the two treatments work differently, they can actually complement each other. However, it is safer to receive them in separate sessions rather than on the same day.

Q. Is Re2O® permanent? Do side effects last for life after the treatment? It is not a permanent treatment. The injected acellular dermal matrix is naturally absorbed and integrated over time, and the effect gradually fades over 2 to 3 months. Most side effects are temporary, and even rare cases like nodules can be resolved by injecting saline solution.

Q. Who is Re2O® recommended for? We especially recommend it for those who are concerned about skin texture, fine lines, internal dryness, and dullness all at once; those bothered by the texture around the mouth, under the eyes, or on the backs of the hands; and those who are about to undergo a lifting treatment.
