Skin Booster HILO WAVE®

What kind of booster is HILO WAVE®?

HILO WAVE® is a hybrid Skin Booster that uses a high- and low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid complex to replenish both moisture and elasticity. The basic course typically consists of 2 to 3 sessions at intervals of around 4 weeks, followed by maintenance treatments depending on your skin condition.

What are the ingredients and mechanism of HILO WAVE®?

HILO WAVE® is a Skin Booster whose main ingredient is high-purity, non-animal-derived hyaluronic acid (HA). It features a dual-molecular structure that contains both high-molecular-weight and low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid. The low-molecular-weight HA delivers moisture to the deeper layers of the skin, while the high-molecular-weight HA supports the skin structure and helps prevent moisture loss.

Its mechanism of action goes beyond simple hydration. The injected hyaluronic acid complex improves the dermal environment and stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, helping restore the skin's natural elasticity and a natural sense of volume. For this reason, HILO WAVE® is classified as a treatment that combines the characteristics of a "moisture booster" and an "elasticity booster."

What are the benefits of cross-linked hyaluronic acid?

The main advantage of cross-linked hyaluronic acid is that it breaks down more slowly in the body, so it stays in the skin longer after injection and works gradually. Non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid breaks down relatively quickly in the skin, resulting in a shorter duration of effect. In contrast, the cross-linked form, where molecules are bonded together, acts like a moisture reservoir, holding onto water for a longer period.

Additionally, the longer-lasting hyaluronic acid creates a sustained stimulus in the surrounding dermis, which is favorable for ongoing collagen and elastin remodeling. HILO WAVE® is designed not to form a firm gel like a dermal filler, but to spread widely with a soft consistency. You can think of it as a formulation that balances longevity and naturalness.

How is it different from a hydrating injection (mul-gwang injection)?

The biggest difference lies in the goal. While a hydrating injection focuses on immediate improvement in moisture and radiance, HILO WAVE® aims to improve volume and elasticity in addition to providing hydration.

CategoryHILO WAVE®General hydrating injection
Main ingredientHigh- and low-molecular-weight HA complexNon-cross-linked (or lightly cross-linked) HA
Primary goalVolume improvement, moisture + elasticity & fine line improvementMoisture & radiance improvement
Onset of effectImmediate hydration, immediate volume improvement, elasticity changes over several weeksRelatively immediate
Duration tendencyRelatively longRelatively short

To summarize, if a hydrating injection is closer to "instant moisture right now," HILO WAVE® is a treatment that offers "volume and elasticity built on top of moisture." Which option is suitable depends on the degree of skin dryness, the extent of elasticity loss, and your expectations regarding duration of results.

What skin concerns is it suitable for?

It is particularly suitable for skin that experiences deep dryness along with the onset of fine lines and loss of elasticity. Typical candidates include dehydrated skin where makeup lifts and feels tight, fine lines on thin skin areas such as around the eyes, mouth, and neck, and skin that has become dull and thin with age.

In clinical practice, many patients visit feeling that their skin "lacks strength" even without significant hollowing. HILO WAVE® can be a good option for those who do not have pronounced depressions that would require a dermal filler, but whose skin overall appears deflated and lacks firmness. Because of its soft consistency, it can be used not only on the entire face but also on areas like the neck, where filler application is more cautious. However, for deep wrinkles or significant volume loss, volumizing treatments such as Sculptra or HA Filler may be more appropriate, so a differential diagnosis based on the area of concern is necessary.

How many sessions are recommended?

The basic course typically consists of 2 to 3 sessions at intervals of around 4 weeks. You may notice a change after just one session, but because collagen and elastin production is a time-consuming process, repeating the treatment to accumulate effects is more advantageous for improving elasticity.

After the basic course, it is common to continue with maintenance treatments at intervals of several months, depending on your skin condition. However, the appropriate number of sessions and intervals vary based on age, skin thickness, degree of dryness and elasticity loss, and any other concurrent treatments. Therefore, it is advisable to establish an individualized plan after a consultation rather than following a fixed number of sessions. At Heal House, we offer consultations for HILO WAVE® alone or in combination with lifting or booster programs, based on a skin condition assessment.
