Both procedures use high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) to create thermal coagulation points in the skin to induce lifting, but the key difference is whether the treatment is performed 'while visualizing.' Ultherapy PRIME® uses real-time ultrasound imaging (DeepSee) to view the skin cross-section and deliver energy at the required depth among 1.5, 3.0, and 4.5 mm, whereas SHURINK UNIVERSE delivers energy at a fixed depth without imaging.
Skin thickness and the depth of the SMAS layer vary from person to person and even by area within the same face. When the procedure is performed while visualizing the tissue structure with imaging, you can see with your own eyes whether the energy reaches the target layer accurately and whether areas with nerves or blood vessels are avoided, resulting in differences in precision and safety.
In addition, there are differences in energy output characteristics and the intensity of heat delivered per shot. Generally, Ultherapy PRIME® delivers strong energy to precise locations with fewer shots, while SHURINK UNIVERSE delivers relatively gentle energy divided into multiple shots.
