Excimer laser treatment for vitiligo lecture at the Korean Association of Dermatologists fall academic conference: sharing experience on energy adjustment according to lesion status and combination therapy
Director Jung Min Bae participated as a speaker at the Korean Association of Dermatologists fall academic conference and shared clinical experience on excimer laser treatment for vitiligo.
The excimer laser is widely used for vitiligo treatment, but even when using the same device, the treatment method must vary depending on the location and activity of the lesion and the skin response. This is because the appropriate energy and treatment interval differ for each patient, making it important to carefully monitor progress and adjust the plan.
In this lecture, we introduced how to set the energy of the excimer laser based on lesion activity and previous treatment response, along with real cases. We also shared with fellow medical staff the considerations when combining topical treatments such as Protopic ointment, and methods to continue treatment while reducing skin irritation.
For vitiligo, rather than uniformly applying a single treatment method, the treatment plan should be designed by considering the characteristics of the lesion and the patient's lifestyle conditions. The specifications of the equipment are essentially the same at any clinic. Ultimately, what matters is the ability to determine which settings are appropriate for the skin at hand.
