Vitiligo Surgery Observation at Rizal Medical Center, Philippines

by Heal House Gangnam Branch

Professor Cifra from the Department of Dermatology at Rizal Medical Center in the Philippines visited Heal House to observe the entire process of vitiligo micro-punch grafting. This was an opportunity to review together the planning and criteria for a procedure that transfers small skin tissue to the lesion to induce repigmentation.

Professor Cifra from the Department of Dermatology at Rizal Medical Center in the Philippines visited Heal House. This was to directly observe in the operating room how vitiligo micro-punch grafting is actually performed.

Micro-punch grafting is a treatment that harvests small skin tissue and transfers it to vitiligo lesions to induce repigmentation. Since the surgical plan varies depending on the location of the lesion and skin condition, it is important to carefully monitor the postoperative progress along with the technique.

That day, Professor Cifra observed the entire process, taking notes on every detail of Director Jung Min Bae's explanations. From determining the surgical candidate and graft site, to tissue harvesting, adjusting punch size and graft spacing, and postoperative care. It was a time when aspects that cannot be conveyed through text or photos were revealed directly through the hands-on work.

After the observation, they shared cases from their respective clinical practices. They exchanged opinions on which patients are suitable for surgery, how outcomes differed, and what to consider when combining laser treatment. Sharing experiences built in different medical environments allows one to re-examine familiar processes. We hope that the steps observed today will be applied again in the operating rooms of the Philippines.
