Lifting Ultherapy PRIME® Thermage® FLX

Lifting by Age Group: When and Which Treatment Should You Choose?

Skin collagen decreases by about 1% each year after adulthood. For people in their 20s and 30s, the focus is on preventive care such as Thermage® FLX and Soprano Titanium. For those in their 40s and 50s, the emphasis is on correcting sagging by combining Ultherapy PRIME® with volume and collagen stimulation treatments like Sculptra and JUVELOOK Volume. However, the actual treatment intensity should be determined based on your current degree of sagging and skin thickness rather than your age.

How Do Recommended Treatments Differ by Age Group (20s, 30s, 40s, 50s)?

Lifting by age group has different goals: prevention of aging for those in their 20s and 30s, and correction of sagging and aging management for those in their 40s and 50s. This is because skin collagen steadily decreases with age, gradually declining by about 1% per year after adulthood, so the goal shifts from "maintenance" to "correction" over time.

People in their 20s often do not have noticeable sagging, so the focus is on gentle collagen-stimulating care or improving skin texture. In their 30s, energy-based lifting is lightly considered from the perspective of preventing or alleviating early loss of elasticity. In their 40s, nasolabial folds and cheek sagging begin to appear, so combining ultrasound and RF lifting with volume and collagen stimulation becomes more common. After age 50, a combined approach that addresses both sagging correction and skin regeneration is considered.

Do You Need Stronger Lifting as You Get Older?

Not necessarily. Getting older does not automatically mean you need a stronger treatment. It is more important to determine the appropriate intensity based on the degree of sagging, skin thickness, and elasticity. Especially in older individuals, the skin can become thinner and more sensitive, so it is often safer to carefully design the combination and intervals rather than simply increasing the intensity.

Stronger stimulation does not always lead to better results. If the intensity is too high for your skin condition, it may increase recovery burden or discomfort. Conversely, if sagging is noticeable but you only repeat very mild treatments, you may not see enough change.

Ultimately, it is not "age equals intensity" but "condition equals intensity." The appropriate intensity varies greatly between individuals, so it is safer to determine it by assessing both the degree of sagging and skin thickness.

Is the Degree of Sagging More Important Than Age?

Yes. When planning a lifting treatment, your current degree of sagging and skin condition are more important criteria than your actual age. Even at the same age, the rate of elasticity loss can vary significantly depending on sun exposure, genetics, and lifestyle, so it is difficult to decide on a treatment based solely on a number.

For example, a person in their 30s who spends a lot of time outdoors and experiences rapid loss of elasticity may benefit from a management approach similar to that for someone in their 40s. Conversely, a person in their 50s who has taken good care of their skin may be better suited to a more conservative approach. Therefore, during a consultation, we evaluate the location and depth of sagging, skin thickness, and volume status rather than just looking at age.

Thus, age-group guidelines are only a rough starting point. It is advisable to adjust the actual treatment according to your individual degree of sagging.

Does the Maintenance Interval for Lifting Vary by Age Group?

The maintenance interval depends not only on age group but also on the type of treatment and your individual collagen response. Therefore, it is generally recommended to adjust the interval on a personal basis rather than using a fixed schedule. However, during periods when collagen loss is faster, maintenance intervals tend to be shorter.

Energy-based lifting takes several months for collagen remodeling, so the repeat treatment timing is determined after the effects have stabilized and your skin condition is reassessed. In practice, repeat treatments are typically adjusted around 1 to 2 times per year. Biostimulators (such as Sculptra) and collagen-stimulating treatments like JUVELOOK Volume are generally known to have a relatively longer duration of effect, but individual results vary, so it is difficult to make a general statement.

In other words, rather than following a fixed schedule like "every X months without exception," it is more reasonable to decide on the next treatment based on your response to the previous treatment and your current degree of sagging.

How Should You Budget for Lifting Treatments by Age Group?

It is more reasonable to approach budget allocation from the perspective of "what to prioritize" rather than a specific amount. Treatment costs vary depending on the area, scope, number of shots, number of sessions, and whether the product is genuine. Therefore, the key is to set priorities according to your goals for each age group.

Generally, for people in their 20s and 30s, the focus is on prevention and maintenance, so allocating budget to collagen stimulation and skin texture management is considered. For those in their 40s and 50s, lifting for sagging correction is combined with volume and regeneration, so it is less burdensome to allocate the budget in stages rather than all at once. An efficient approach is to start with the highest-priority items and decide on the next steps after seeing the results.

Exact costs and allocation vary greatly depending on your individual condition, goals, and combination of treatments. We recommend consulting with a specialist to determine your priorities and plan together.
