Sharing topical treatment experience for various skin diseases at the Leo Pharma Academic Symposium — Introducing how to combine ointment and excimer laser for vitiligo treatment

Dr. Jung Min Bae served as a speaker at the academic symposium hosted by Leo Pharma, a company specializing in skin disease medications. It was a session to share clinical experience on how topical immunomodulators widely used for atopic dermatitis have been applied to various inflammatory and immune-mediated skin diseases, including vitiligo.

In the area of vitiligo, the lecture reviewed how outcomes differed when using an ointment alone, when combining it with an excimer laser, and when adding methods to enhance drug absorption, using case examples. The presenter also shared with fellow clinicians how to adjust the treatment site, number of sessions, and whether to combine therapies depending on the lesion location, extent, and treatment response.

Even with the same ointment, the expected response and points to note vary depending on the disease and skin condition. This is also the reason why the state of the skin barrier and the immune response are considered together when selecting a topical medication. Although it may seem like an inconspicuous judgment, it is often in such details that the difference in outcomes lies.
