The Heal House team grew closer through conversations in front of the artworks

Heal House organized an art museum workshop so that staff members could step away from their daily routine and find new inspiration. This time, we visited the 《Do Ho Suh》 exhibition at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul.

A day at a dermatology clinic moves quickly — busier than you might expect. Between greeting patients on schedule, carefully monitoring them before and after procedures, and focusing on each consultation, it is easy to run out of time to reflect on ourselves. Even though we work with "beauty" every day, we had not had many occasions to quietly appreciate something beautiful.

That is why Heal House set aside time outside the clinic to broaden our perspectives. At the museum, everyone becomes a visitor standing in front of the same works, regardless of rank or role. The experience of standing side by side with a colleague you usually pass by in a hurry, sharing what you see and feel, is the very reason for this workshop.
The Do Ho Suh exhibition we viewed together is a large-scale solo show that comprehensively illuminates the artistic world of internationally renowned contemporary artist Do Ho Suh. It features over 500 works, including drawings, sculptures, videos, and installations.

Many of our staff paused longest at the piece where the artist recreated the hallways, doors, and rooms of the homes he has lived in — using translucent fabric. The way spaces from Seoul, New York, London, and Berlin were connected and layered within a single gallery was striking.

As we walked through the works, conversations naturally flowed.

Just as the artist sees clothing and houses as “spaces that envelop the body,” skin too is the closest thing that wraps around our bodies. The message that memories accumulate in things worn for a long time — as in the new work “Love’s Memory,” made from the artist’s own coat — struck us, who face patients’ skin every day, in a fresh way.

Seeing skin not simply as something to be 'fixed,' but as a place that holds the time a person has lived — this perspective mirrors the attitude Heal House strives to uphold in our practice.

Drs. Jung Min Bae and Hanmi Jung joined the workshop that day. They mingled with the staff, sharing their impressions in front of the artworks, and conversations that are not easy to have in the clinic flowed naturally. After the viewing, everyone had a meal together and talked about the works that left the strongest impression.

Many staff members shared feedback that it was good to step away from work for a while, see something new, and have non-work conversations with colleagues.

Heal House had a clear reason for holding this museum workshop.

We believe that good care ultimately comes from people, and people can give better energy when they rest enough, see new things, and understand each other. Heal House will continue to create such opportunities so that the inspiration gained outside the clinic can translate into a warm heart when welcoming patients.
