Re2O® is said to contain human collagen — what does that mean?

The biggest difference is the origin of the raw material. Re2O® uses human dermis-derived components (hADM), whereas some boosters use collagen from other species such as pigs or cows, or ingredients derived from salmon. The fact that it is from the same lineage as the human body is described as a conceptual differentiator of Re2O®.

ECM (extracellular matrix) is a collective term for components such as collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid that fill the spaces between cells and support the structure and elasticity of the skin. Re2O® differs from conventional boosters that 'stimulate' the skin to produce its own collagen, in that it directly replenishes these ECM components into the dermis.

As aging progresses, the ECM in the dermis decreases, causing the skin to become thinner and less dense. Re2O® is described as directly replenishing the depleted ECM to reinforce the physical support structure, while also acting as a signal to help generate new ECM over time. It can be seen as having both 'stimulating' and 'filling' characteristics.

This procedure is especially considered for skin where the dermis has thinned and density has decreased, accompanied by fine wrinkles and reduced texture. In clinical settings, these two conditions often appear together, and because of the characteristic of directly replenishing ECM, it is aligned with reinforcing skin whose structure has broken down due to aging.

It may also be considered for thin and sensitive areas such as under the eyes or nasolabial folds, where use of regular dermal fillers is approached with caution. Re2O® is known to undergo a processing step that removes cellular components that can trigger immune reactions from hADM, and this is described as a safety feature. However, as with all injection procedures, swelling, redness, minor bruising, and temporary discomfort at the injection site may occur.
