PicoLO PREMIUM emits 532 nm and 1064 nm wavelengths in short picosecond pulses. Because the pulse duration is short, the energy is concentrated on the pigment particles before it spreads, allowing pigment to be broken up with reduced thermal damage. The fractional handpiece uses a diffractive optical element to divide the laser into uniform microbeams; when these beams reach the dermis, they create small cavities. This is called laser-induced optical breakdown (LIOB), and during the healing process, collagen is produced, which may improve scars and pores.
